Butt rock is the any Heavy Metal music from the eighties that is so horrible that it is both hysterical and hella rad at the same time. These bands usually have amazingly ugly members who wear exceedinly tight pants big hair and make up. One good way to tell if a band is "Butt Rock" is if during their music video, the drummer blows a kiss to the screen while drumming
Quiet Riot and Twiztid Sister are the best examples of butt rock. If you really want to know about the radness of butt rock download the song "Cum on feel the noise!" by Quiet Riot

A derogatory term for any hard rock music. The term comes from a nationwide advertising campaign on hard rock radio stations in the 1990s that used the tagline "Rock. Nothing but Rock." Listeners quickly changed that to "Nothing Butt Rock". Though it refers to anything played on hard rock stations, it commonly is used to refer to 'hair-bands' or used by people to distinguish the 'bad' butt rock from the hard rock that they like.

All the definitions before this one are in correct. Butt Rock is style of music, that came to fruition during the late 70's and early 80's. It was defined by the fact that the style of dress or 'traditional garb' of those that created and or listened to Butt Rock included tight-fitting pants that emphasized the buttocks. Meaning, pants, Jeans, etc that were so tight one could make out the outline or details of the buttocks. This was hand in hand with the sexual innuendos and double entendre's that could commonly be found in the lyrics to this style of music.

Additionally, the pants were so tight that the outline of a certain part of the male anatomy were visible. This aspect would be referred to and bring about the label of Cock Rock by those familiar with the genre, but ultimately has the same meaning as Butt Rock.

One would argue that these labels could be deemed negative or a positive, depending on your like or dislike of this particular style of music.

Band Examples: Journey, Foreigner, Ac/Dc, Def Leppard.
Ac/Dc (namely during the Bon Scott era) are a great example of butt rock.

Butt Rock is fun to listen to in small doses, or at an 80's party.

Any music that was produced using predictable assembly line style power-chord structures and lyrics with absolutely zero forethought other than rhyme and easy mass-identification. If a band churns out more than one album per year, odds are favorable that they are a butt rock band. Bonus points if the lead singer attempts to emulate Scott Stapp because although Creed is not (quite) butt rock, there would be no butt rock without them. Pioneers of butt rock include Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, Three Days Grace, Buck Cherry, and Hinder. The song "The New Sh!t" from Marylin Manson's "Golden Age of Grotesque" album can be interpereted as a poignant critique of butt rock.
It only took me one listen to completely digest that new Hinder tune. Butt rock goes down so smooth! I don't have to think at all!

Butt Rock, as opposed to the above definitions, refers to bands (primarily from the 1990's to present) that use their voice in a twangy deep fashion that could only be described as coming from the butt. They can be on top of many types of music, but usually are made up of simple clean power chords. ex. Creed, Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, Seether, Three Doors Down, Pearl Jam, Lifehouse, etc...
Did you hear that crappy butt rock band that tried to sound like Creed?

Eighties era 'heavy metal'. Some bands even continued into the early 90's, while scant others exist today (aerosmith). Fashion items include, but aren't limited to, tight spandex (with or without leopard print), colored boas, leg warmers (over the pants), really tight leather jackets with studs in them, denim galore, etc. Hair was generally teased up with an insane amount of hairspray, known as the metal afro. Members wore copious amounts of makeup lending to a very sassy look. I can't believe this was once considered cool.
