Bum Blockers 

Any item or device used to remove the less-savory elements of routine urban life, such as crazy homeless people and garbage, from one's sensory perception.

Common examples are headphones for blocking sound and darker sunglasses for blocking visuals.

Person 1: "Did you hear that tweaker flipping out on the subway on the way here? God this city is such a shithole!"

Person 2: "Nah, I had my bum blockers in. All I heard the whole ride was my music."
