Bidmeadism

The practice of rejecting fantastical elements in science fiction in favor of pure, hard science. For instance, Star Wars plus Bidmeadism would result in every reference to the force replaced with midi-chlorians and lightsabers being swapped out for "plasma blades". Oh, and the entire movie would focus on mitochondria or evolution.

Named for Christopher H. Bidmead, former write/script editor on Doctor Who, who pushed for more realistic storylines and ideas.
Replacing a story about space fairies with one about fast-spreading bacteria is Bidmeadism at its finest.
