Can-Trick 

The Can-Trick is a method of determining if/when lunch has arrived for the day(at lunch-sponsored firms). An employee will walk with an empty soda can to their company's lunch room to see if lunch has arrived for the day. Using an empty soda can increases the odds exponentially that lunch will actually be there when the attempt is made.

It is 11:30am. I am hungry so I will be attempting the 'Can-Trick' to see if lunch is here. Since I am performing the Can-Trick, lunch is more likely to have arrived.

Perhaps the best way to make sure you don't get laid that night. Any guy who buys a girl a drink is automatically desperate, and they are just showing the girl their weakness. Next time a girl asks you to buy her a drink, say, give me a french kiss. If she says no, then why should you buy her a drink. Think about it.

Guy: Can I buy you a drink?

Girl: Aww, Thanks. (takes drink and moves on to the real man who is getting drinks bought for him)

can counter 

A pain in the ass (usually female) who constantly reminds you of how many drinks you have had.

can't see the wood for the trees 

To be unable to understand the real situation clearly because you're involvement in it make you loose focus of what is really important

In selling hats at the fair John would not lower the price a single penny . So while he argues that the full price need to be paid to gather as much funds as possible for charity he can't see the wood for the trees, losing sales all day long and collecting much less money than the other that were willing to sell their hat for a little less.
