Fail Filter

An encounter, either digital or real, designed to filter the good from the bad.
Most commonly associated with video game dungeon encounters, in which "Boss" mechanics require a player to actually think, and/or not be afk.

Heroic Stonecore is a serious Fail Filter.

1. Getting rejected while trying to enter a gated area by following close behind someone who has legitimate access.

2. In a group project when one member does not complete their task on time and gates progession of the project.

1. Ha! Did you see that guy? He is totally fail gating me.

2. Bob is fail gating the entire project because he couldn't complete his report.

fail

A lack of success, a poor mark on an examination, to dwindle or become insufficient. A verb used without object. Currently at an all time high for generic, widespread misuse. The act of FAILURE being the most often intended and correct conjugation, which seems largely to have been forgotten.
Saying something was a FAIL is incorrect, and should be described as a FAILURE.

To misuse this word is to fail

Your rampant misuse of the word is a failure.

1. The train enthusiasts waited at Canada's busiest rail line for hours without seeing any trains. What failfans.

2. The failfans set out on an excursion to photograph trains, without any success.

This 1 TB SSD is worth by far more than the rest of my entire computer, but it's a ticking failbomb.

What you call Apple's Face ID feature when it fails to unlock your Apple phone using face recognition.

iPhone owner: "Bro, my iPhone won't unlock, facial recognition isn't working all of a sudden."

iPhone critic: "Fail ID! So much for artificial intelligence and all that stuff."
