Unsuspecting people have to enter personal information in order to vote or comment to the site. Little do they know they will be contacted later for financial support to a similar/related cause. Used recently by a Canadian political party who is hurting for funding, and to get back into power.

Ha ha ha! Let's vote for an onion ring on FaceBook to make our elected Prime Minister look less popular than an onion ring... he'll have less FaceBook friends than the onion ring.
