SCARFING

(verb) The act of feigning prolonged, ongoing attention with a prop of choice or availability (this behavior was first introduced with a scarf) with the objective of avoiding verbal or physical engagement with an undesirable individual. Refusal to be used as social currency, especially on a public stage. Note: Scarfing can be used in any situation where there is no desire to engage with an individual. Does not have to be on the public stage.
