The words comes from two Greek Words Pedo (child) and Philia (love). These are not the exact Greek words but derivations. So the word refers to a lover of children and has no sexual connotations except those put on it by society. So a nursery nurse, teacher and parent may be a pedophile in this sense. Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) was in love with Alice Liddell when she was a child and even photographed her in the nude as well as writing his famous books for her. But there was nothing sexual in this. Females are incredibly beautiful creatures at all ages, particuarly in their early teens when they are blossoming and have a touch of sensuality mixed with innocent beauty. They make wonderful subjects for photography and art and poetry. It is easy to fall in love with a girl of this age. To have sex with a girl of this age (let alone a boy) is another matter and can have far reaching effects on the child for the rest of their lives. To force sex on a child is the worse kind of bestiality man is capable of. This is general and there are relationships between girls of 14-15-16 with older men that are based on genuine love and the two parties are intelligent enough to make educated decisions. But the subject of sex is a loaded one. There are platonic relationships that can be very rewarding.

Someone who is afraid or offended by so-deemed "pedophiles", including people who aren't actually a pedophile, for the example: ephebophiles (sexually attracted to teenagers around 15-19 years old, which is fully legal in many countries), or people who enjoy watching anime featuring loli characters (also legal in many countries).

Richard: "How dare you enjoy playing that Senran Kagura game? You're a pedophile!"
Naofumi: "Calm down, Dick. It's just a fictional girl so it's not a child abuse."
