drown a kitten

To stop a discussion or debate because you expect the outcome to devolve in a preordered process to something that approximates Godwin's Law. This usually occurs by someone with the wisdom or experience to anticipate such an outcome and may give the more vocal and/or calcified poster thinking he/she has won an argument.

I was going to post about how Microsoft's design choices have been responsive to user's stated desires but decided to "drown a kitten" as I thought of the other psuedo-religious technical discussions that already existed.

any living thing. kitten can be used as an affectionate exclamation in recognition of any perception of a living thing.

a friend brings over their new puppy, immediately as they walk into the door, resident exclaims,

"kitten!"

while watching a movie, a bear appears, viewer exclaims,

"kitten!"

a dear friend enters the room, they are greeted,

"herro kitten!"

while walking down the street, a cochroach crawls by, observer exclames,

"kitten!"
(note: typically kitten refers to animals that are considered to be somewhat cute, however, in some cases, kitten can be used to refer to less cute animals as an attempt at humor.)
