A phrase (along with an action that consists of pretending to throw a fishing rod into a lake, an implied biting of a 'fish' and a subsequent reeling in of that 'fish') which is to encourage/humiliate someone trying to 'get in' with another (usually of thee opposite gender). Either just the phrase 'hook in' or 'reel in', the action or both can be used to convey the message. The hook signifies establishing a conversation while the reel signifies getting closer and more personal.
Boy: hey how was your day
Girl: good how was yours?
Friend: (does hook and reel action)
Boy: (embarrassed)
Girl: good how was yours?

Tonsil hockey. The BEGINNING (tongue to tongue) or ADVANCED (tongue to guy's "hockey stick") way. If one thing leads to another, hooking up can result in EXPERT tonsil hockey which means the male's "hockey stick" thrusts itself into the female's "goal post." SCORE!

Wild, Chaotic, Unencumbered. Derived from ancient naval slang. The hook referred to the anchor. In violent storms, if the anchor would break loose from the seabottom (or break loose from the anchor chain - ref "Off the chain.."), the ship would be uncontrolled, free and wild. Utter chaos. Can you imagine anything more wild than a uncontrolled ship in a hurricane?
