grunge

In the early and mid 1980s, grunge was a subgenre of punk that included bands such as Green River, The Melvins and Soundgarden. Though these bands did combine elements of heavy metal and punk, the term was mainly coined to describe the murky and dirty guitar sound. Eventually, grunge was used to describe a fashion style, which consisted of torn and faded jeans, flannel shirts, and ratty t-shirts, as well as bands such as Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, and Alice in Chains.

Grunge

First of all, grunge is not a style. It is a genre of music that started in the late 80s. If you see a person wearing a Nirvana shirt with purple hair and Doc Martens, that does not make them "grunge". They may call themselves grunge but like I said it's not a fashion style. It is a music genre. Nirvana did not start grunge. There had been many bands before Nirvana that were grunge. Nirvana isn't the only mainstream grunge band either. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, and many more bands are all grunge. There is no such thing as soft grunge. That has never existed and it never will. When people say "Grunge is dead," they don't know what they are talking about because there are bands out there that are grunge. So grunge is simply a music genre and nothing else.
Sarah: I'm grunge. I have pastel hair, Doc Martens, and a Nirvana tee shirt.

Max: No you're not. Grunge is not a style. It is a genre of music like Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains.

grunge

a derivitive of punk rock that has a disorted, murky sound. Term was first used in the early to mid 1980's to describe bands such as green river, the melvins etc...
also called the 'northwest' sound-as the majority of this music origionated in the pacific north west of america-especially around the seattle area, or the 'subpop' sound, as many of the 'grunge' records were released on this small lable.
'grunge' reached the mainstream in the late 1980's/early 1990's with the breakthrough of acts such as nirvana, soundgarden, mudhoney, pearl jam, alice in chains and so on and so forth.
grunge really ended around the time of the death of kurt cobain in 1994, but many origional fans see the end of grunge with the over comercialisation of the music around the time nirvanas nevermind was released, the most extreme case of this overcomercialisation being the vogue grunge spread.

Townies are always trying to be nasty to grungers cos' they are jealos or other stupid reasons. But normally the insult comes out the same e.g "your a dic*" or fu** off!
this happens because townies have no intelligence at all cos' they dont go to school
Townie: Oi! wha' u lookin at!
Grunger: Your ugly face
Townie: Come on den!

(grunger will fight if ther is only 1-2 of them, but will run if there is 20 cos' townies are to afraid to stand up for themselves or scared of getting hurt)

Townie: You runnin away! You afraid of me!

Grunger

A grunger is someone who listens to a subculteral type of music called grunge. A grunger is always being stereotyped as a "skater" and being mocked for their taste in clothes, becasue of the simple fact they don't have one. Grungers wear whatever they can find. This usually means flannel shirts and faded holey jeans. Most grungers are male(though not all) and have long(sometimes greasy)hair. Grungers are also mocked for their hygiene and cleanliness, as grungers don't give a shit what people think of them. Grunge bands include Nirvana, Pearl Jam and many others. A grungers worst enemy is a townie.
Townie #1: Safe maht, innit?
Townie #2: A'ight.
Townie #1: Fucking grungas round, fuckin' knock 'em out, cos I'm 'ard.
Townie #2: 'Ow then, let's go knock 'em out.
Townies meet a grunger
Grunger: Evening.
Townie #1: Fuckin' mosha.
Grunger:...
Grunger plays "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
Townies burn.

post grunge

A term used to describe a sub-genre of rock music that has been inspired by original grunge music.

Sadly, many fans of original grunge dislike post grunge music since they feel that post grunge bands have "watered down" their music and made it "radio friendly" or basically in a way sold out to mainstream music. Unfortunately this is somewhat true. Just as with any genre of music, there are bands that are willing to give up their unique musical style and creativity that gives their music it's power just to make it in the music industry. However, this does not apply to all post grunge bands.

A lot of the post grunge sound is simply an evolution in music. Just as grunge was inspired from rock music such as punk and metal, post grunge is an inspiration of grunge music and another genre such as metal, heavy metal, soft rock, blues, etc.......which ever the band would like to use to express themselves.

As long as the band is putting their heart & soul into their music, there is nothing wrong with a post grunge style. Post grunge bands deserve equal respect. Not every person will have the same taste in music.
Grunger 1: Uhhh......I don't like post grunge music. It sounds watered down and mainstream.....like they sold out to the music industry. It's kinda insulting to grunge music.

Grunger 2: Yeah a lot of bands have.....but not all. Some are just incorporating another style of music with good old grunge. Doesn't mean they're compromising the creativity and emotion they put in their music. They're just playing their music in a way that they feel expresses them best. Candlebox, Bush, and Seether are a few of my favorite post grunge bands.

Grunger 1: Hmmm......yeah I think you've got a point there. I'm just not really fond of that particular sound I guess.
