long island

Geographically, a large island formed by glacial till deposited by glaciers in the last ice age. Consists of the suburban counties of Nassau and Suffolk, along with the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, with a total population of around 7 million.

Regionally/Politically, just Nassau and Suffolk counties, the eastern four-fifths of the geographical Long Island, with a population of 2.5 million. This is the most common use of the term.

Until the explosion of suburban development following World War II, Long Island was a geographically diverse region, with beaches, hills, woods, praries (yep), petrified forests (that, too), and small, idyllic fishing and farming villages. Now, the landscape is dominated by suburban towns and unincorporated communities that range in population from a couple hundred to around 50,000 people. Beach resort/bedroom communities like The Hamptons are extremely popular with downstate in the summer months. In addition, Jones Beach is a popular recreational and music venue, while Fire Island is world-famous as a gay mecca and a historic nautical community.
The good:
High quality of life, low crime rate, proximity to New York City, reasonably efficient and reliable public transit, attractive beaches, Splish Splash waterpark.

The bad:
Aging population, rising cost of living, racial segregation, urban sprawl, the necessity of owning a car, beach erosion, increasing problems with gangs, the trashy reputation of some of its younger residents ("lidiots").

rhode island

*Rhode Island is a small state on the East Coast. In fact, it's so small it's the smallest state.
*Has a population of roughly 1 million people.
*Cranston is the home of Del's Lemonade
*RI has the shortest memo and the longest name
-Memo: Hope.
-Official State Name: State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.
*Most people think it's an island. It's not.

People that live in RI generally can't pronounce their R's. Who knows why, but they can't. They also seem to hate tourists. Gold jewellery, Del's, gum, and knowing everyone you see at the local drug store. Those are some things that indicate you are a true Rhode Islander.
Betty and Charlotte live in Rhode Island. At high school, they discuss the "show" over a drink at the bubbla.

Betty: Hey Chahlette let's go to the show tomahruh with Judy and Vinnie.

Islamorada

Possibly one of the biggest tourist attractions in the united states. The locals waste their time there, getting trashed at local bars and getting divorced to their wives, to only end up dating the guys from across the bar. If your parents aren't charter boat capitans, they are most likely a real estate agent. Everyone is related in some strange way, and you know of legendary family names like Ross, Lindback, Eklund, De Paula and so on and so forth. we have one public school on the island that isnt even worth going to, and is a complete joke. There is no mall in sight. forget about it because the residents all end up wearing the same clothes that come from homestead which is the closest place to find decent clothing around. Maybe they should just lower the Drinking age to 13 1/2 because thats when the local children find things like beer and occasionally pot. Islamorada is basically the high school for adults, getting drunk and spreading rumors about the place
Kelly- "hey are you coming home to islamorada from boarding school?"

Ansley- "hell yeah! remember when we were in seventh grade and made jello shots when my parents got divorced and my mom started going out with tylers dad?"

Kelly-"yeah those were the days."
