Humans

A race which has produced such beauties as music, art, culture, and has the capacity for compassion, learning, and kindness, a trait not exhibited by any species. The race is the only one to produce a technological global civilization of dizzying complexity that has managed to reach the limits of space and is also the only one to experience tremendous technological and social progress over time. They've gone from being a sexist, racist, xenophobic, greedy, and venally driven race, to one that has at least become far more open, tolerant, free, and compassionate. Despite what misanthropes and cynics would say about humanity's supposed "progress" and all of their shortcomings and flaws, humans are in fact making progress and have boundless amounts of potential.

Humans have made more progress in the past 3 centuries than in all of history before that point. In that time, they've made tremendous social progress, uplifting and empowering billons with the decline of sexism, intolerance, and slavery.
