NORMALISM

Normalism is an ideology vigorously practised by a high percentage of homo sapiens. It was formed organically during the agricultural revolution some 10,000 years ago. Subscribers of Normalism all share similar doubts & fears, behaviour in social settings, sleep schedules, meal times, exercise schedules, addictions, social media consumtion, vocabulary etc. Many people are members of Normalism without conscious realisation, their beliefs are past on ancestrally. The tight Normalism belief structure is very effective for controlling people and keeping societal order. School systems and people in higher power enjoy the ease of control over Normalists like a sheep dog and its sheep. Normalist will have negative feelings as they witness someone not conforming.Contradiction to Normalism such as doing push ups in a supermarket will cause Normalists to feel funny inside and stare as they whisper something to the person next to them. Unfortunately the pressures of Normalist duties will keep one to a mediocre life, traits beneficial for conquering and success like candidness, obsession ,excessive ambition, lack of fear, aggression etc, are frowned upon by the Normalist community. One must resign from their duties under the Normalist regime if they wish to rise above in life, exiting is very difficult, it takes will power and undisputed belief in oneself. You will experience presence of envy and anger from Normalists as you begin to change and elevate.

PERSON 1: "Did you just go for a 20km run at 3am?! That is insane, You should have been sleeping!"

PERSON 2: "You sound like a member of Normalism. I do what i want, don't get in my way."

Normality is a state of being developed by a group of old people who did not fit in.

Mom: You can't be an artist when you get older. You should be happy taking over your father's business. Normality is the status quo in this household!
Son: And that's why I'm moving out!

Normality Bias

The oppressive use of "normality"—defined by dominant social, cultural, or political groups—as a cudgel to dismiss arguments, identities, or ways of life that deviate from that imposed standard. It asserts that what is statistically common or traditionally accepted is inherently right, rational, and healthy, while anything else is defective, radical, or invalid. It's a bias that mistakes convention for truth.

Example: Arguing against universal childcare by saying, "The normal family has a stay-at-home mother, so policy shouldn't support other models," uses Normality Bias. It leverages a descriptive (and arguable) claim about what's common to make a prescriptive judgment, shutting down debate about what might be better or more just.

Normality Bias

The societal-level counterpart, referring to the institutional and cultural machinery that actively pathologizes, marginalizes, or renders invisible any person, identity, or mode of living that falls outside the constructed norm. It's not just a cognitive error; it's a system of power that uses bias as a tool. This bias is embedded in language ("that's not normal"), diagnostic manuals, legal codes, and architectural design.

Example: Urban planning that assumes every household owns a car, thereby neglecting public transit, bike lanes, and walkable spaces, enforces a Normality Bias. It physically constructs a world where car-free living is difficult and stigmatized as "abnormal," privileging one lifestyle and disadvantaging all others.
