Attempts at being upscale when you have little clue what class really is. An attempt to be fancy, when it's in fact little more than a polished meh. A little splurge to get fancy, when it's flexing a little bit of status from spent money more than achieving a high standard of quality. Still essentially mediocre, but with some fancy frills polishing the appearance without substantial improvement.

Originally coined by Venkatesh Rao in 02017 "Premium mediocre is the finest bottle of wine at Olive Garden." it has quickly spread from Twitter throughout the intarwebz.

"I wanted to impress her, so I took her to a fancy restaurant." "Yeah bro? Like where?" "Red Lobster" "Man, that ain't fancy, that's just premium mediocre."

McMansions are about as premium mediocre as you can get.

MWM (Mediocre White Male)

Pejorative term referring to Mediocre White Male (or Man or Men). MWMs are often unaware of their mediocrity and behave as though they are exceptional. The term relies, in part, on the contradiction in the statistical reality that most white men ARE, by definition, mediocre, but many seem to think they are the bee's knees anyway. MWMs lack humility and have a maddening sense of entitlement.

1. I shared my thoughts on the subject, was ignored, then a MWM (Mediocre White Male) said the same thing and was praised. SMDH.

Wildly mediocre

A common working dad and husband that lives a mundane life yet has a wild side. The jack of all trades. He is able to provide for his family, memorize every episode of house wives he has watched with his wife, yet be able to kill das boot in .06 seconds. While he enjoys teaching his toddler to catch a football, he also enjoys doing rails off urinals, telling everyone he’s German, and providing enough 10% ABV beers to a family reunion to get everyone drunk enough to tolerate him singing “Mr. Brightside” during karaoke time.

Katie “wow I’m feeling pretty buzzed. I only drank one of those beers that white collar dude gave me and I feel like fighting a bear.”

Jake “ That’s not your typical white collar dude. Sure, he’s got a tie on and that’s his wife and kid, but he just me when they leave He’s driving to Toledo to go to an underground midget fight club and he’s got money on the one he’s been selling the juice to. I’d steal clear, that guy is wildly mediocre.

Spiritually Mediocre

SM, for short, is a person who repeats phrases, “facts”, or jokes we’ve all heard a million times. They have no original thoughts of their own and just repeat things they think they’re expected to say. Also known as a “Bromide” (‘Are you a Bromide? The Sulphitic theory expounded and exemplified’ 1906) or more recently known as an “NPC” the term Spiritually Mediocre was coined in 2012.

SM Bromide NPC guy: it’s messed up that in America you can go over seas and kill people at 18 but you can’t legally crack a freakin beer! Play stupid games win stupid prizes. If you travel to Ireland, do not go to a pub and order an Irish car bomb, that’d be like ordering a 9/11 in NYC. I just watch the super bowl for the commercials. Statistically speaking, it’s actually harder to get into clown college than Harvard. I don't care about cars, as long as it gets me from point A to point B.
