Shaabi

Shaabi, as it's usually transliterated, or more accurately, sha'bi, is an Egyptian music genre developed in the first half of Twentieth century that thrived in 1960s-80s.

Though shaabi music is exclusively urban music of Cairo, it originates in Egyptian folk rural music, esp. of Delta's fellaheen (peasants).

Etymology: Arabic sha'bi (popular, folk, of common people) ultimately from sha'b (people).

Egyptian shaabi singers rock, but you must admit their music is pure kitsch.

You will hear this word everywhere in Mongolia in many different forms, similar to 'pizda' it's used as a noun,veb , adjective, a pre-modifier or a post-modifier.

(To put it simply, use it anywhere in your sentence and you'll be fine!)

The word is not as powerful as the western use of 'fuck' in the sense of rudeness, as it's widely used as part of a slang speech pattern and is engraved as part of certain dialects.
