Derogatory term used on the northside of Dublin in the 1980s currently making an unlikely comback.

A close relation of shithead/shitehawk and at its most effective when used in conjuction with 'your ma' style insults.

Gickna

The word gickna has two meanings which can be interchangeable (see example 3)

(1) Irish slang for a person who's being a bit of an eejit

(2) Another name for a pigeon that likes to hang out in city center train/bus stations and pretends to have no leg until you give it crumbs, then the leg magically appears

(1) What's John up to with that traffic cone on his head? Ah John give it over will ye? Ya big gickna!

(2) There was a huge gickna pecking at my leg the other day, he wanted a bit of my ham sandwich

(3) Wonder what happened to that poor pigeon's missing leg? Ah don't mind him, he's acting the gickna! Always hiding his leg to get you to throw some of your sandwich!

Mostly seen at train stations and public squares across the globe with missing or deformed feet & claws.
