indie, short for independent, is a normally classified as a music genre. indie music can be anything; rap, folk, pop, punk, international, etc. but is normally labeled as obscure and alternative rock. indie bands are not signed to big record labels, hence the name independent.
but now, indie has become another stereotypical label like emo, goth, prep, and the list goes on. before indie gained popularity, it simply defined people who were independent and did what they want. 'indie people' dress how they want, wear their hair how the want, listen to what they want, and be their own person. 'indie people' are very unique and most are individualists. no two 'indies' are the same.
independent movies and films have also been given the label indie. independent movies are films that have not been made popular and are made outside of large theater companies. indie movies are made with smaller budgets and no corporate funding.

This function was constructed by using the Second Fundamental Theorem of Calculus (Construction Theorem for Antiderivatives). The function f(t)=(sin t)/t used to give mathematicians a lot of grief since its antiderivative is not an elementary function and that the limit as t approaches 0 of (sin t)/t is 0/0 (we do know that that limit is approximately 1 by using L'Hopital's rule). The Construction Theorem made calculating values of Si(x) to any degree of accuracy easy. This is useful as some scientists and engineers use it all the time in fields such as optics and magnetism.

Get the sine-integral mug.A stupid fucking word some music critic coined to describe a band releasing an album via an independent record label. It's not a genre of music, anybody that knows music will tell you that. Indie is the new term for telling people you have sold out.
"Hey man check out these new indie genre bands: LCD Soundsystem and Arctic Monkeys, they will blow your mind" "These bands barely sound alike at all...One is electronic and the other is punk...How can you slot them into the same genre?" "Well you see, I am a fad whore. I must do it."

Get the Inte mug.An indie snob is not like a hipster. They'll listen to an indie pop band, but any other form of pop is a no no. They particularly hate on Dance music. This is offensive to the average person because dance music is a big part of pop culture today. They like getting under people's skin, especially Lady Gaga fans, and tell them that their artist make manufactured pop music. An indie snob hates all pop music, and loves all indie music. They'll usually have 100+ indie bands on their iPods, and download each and every song the bands have made. If your friend ever becomes an indie snob, avoid talking to him about music.
John: How can you listen to that pop music. It's so manufactured and processed.
Chris: Then what should I listen to? Indie Snob....
John: ........You just listen to way too much pop music.
Chris: Yeah, and you listen to way too much shitty music.
John: Well at least it's not fake!
Chris: Yeah, okay. Keep being a dipshit.
