An email, or other communication, sent with a link to a seemingly useful resource but that really is just testing to see if your email address is active and if this kind of resource might be of use to you. The pharketer will then add your email to a distribution list for more pharketing messages to be sent or given to a company as a genuine lead. Not malicious, but certainly worth being wary of.
