1. A new-age style of music developed by musicians such as Emmanuel from Emo Dagher who incorporate powerful emotion into lyrics with uplifting music accompanying. This could also be called 'soulful music' as the overall tone is relatively positive.
2. A dark genre of music that combines varied rock music type instrumentation with often depressed, depressing or downright whiney lyrics. This is in a way punk music gone bad due to a combination of depression, low self esteem and people apparently wanting to feel more depressed thanks to the singer whining about their problems. This could also be due to wanting to relate with it, but in the end it only turns a grim mind state into a rather generic lifestyle.
3. The people who walk around dressed in gothic/punkish clothing who constantly act depressed and/or monotone due to several reasons, usually including lack of attention from both peers and family, not wanting to get over their problems, and a dominating 'victim' mindset which usually causes them to falsely believe they can't do anything about their problems. This is obviously a foolish choice on the part of the individual but stupid and/or brainwashed people seem to enjoy not enjoying themselves, so in this writer's opinion, let 'em whine, just make sure they do it somewhere else.

Get the Emomug. A subculture common to kids born post 1987 who want to identify as a 'punk' but have little knowledge of the origins of the word 'punk'. More than likely they grew up listening to other soft music like the Backstreet Boys and Christina Aguilera, but realised when they reached high school that this was no longer cool. So they start listening to bands like My Chemical Romance and Panic at the Disco or Jared Leto's band because they feel morose and suicidal and that their lives are not worth living. They then start dying their hair black and wearing 1990's punk clothing (skate shoes, heavy chain belts etc) usually consisting of black, red or white. They see themselves as being 'goths' because boys apply eye makeup reminiscent of Robert Smith from the Cure, but highly unlikely whether they actually know who this is. They believe they are being 'alternative' and 'edgy' however they are overwhelmingly conformist as they all look the same, dress the same and listen to extremely soft core, pansy, fluffy pop music disguised as 'punk'.

"god-squad" bands are especially prominent in this genre , this music is an enigma because as soon as anyone other than the first person to hear the band, listens to the music, it becomes unpopular. so bands are constantly called "sellouts" which raises the question.
