hammermen

In the late 19th century, a group of blacksmiths known as the "hammermen" were excommunicated from Blackheath. The exact date is not known but it is thought to have occurred in 1871. This coincided with the Act of Parliament of that year declaring the Heath to be an open public space. Strangely, the Act also stipulated that from that day forward trees were only allowed to be planted on the borders of the Heath and not on the plains themselves. Unconfirmed hearsay suggests that the reason for the excommunication, and ultimately the need for the Act itself, related to the "vigorous, persistent and clandestine homosexual encounters upon the Heath by men of industry". However, it has also supposedly been mooted that the excommunication related to the improvement of the social profile of the area sought by various landed gentry. Regardless, in current vernacular, the youth of the area are frequently heard referring to sexually successful homosexuals as "hammermen" (not to be confused with the heterosexual equivalent i.e. a "swordsman").

hammer jacker

1. A person with an overblown opinion of his abilities who experiences the misfortune of having his true level of ability revealed to his audience, usually while attempting to demonstrate his knowledge or skill.

2. An overly confident person who screws up big time.

The exact origins of this term are not known. Some speculate that the term may first have been coined in reference to a guy who, while playing a cowboy gunslinger like on TV, shot himself in the foot.

Did you hear about John? That hammer jacker shot himself in the foot while showing off his gun slinging "skills" to his friends!

1) (verb) To remove all traces of a user's account or a (sub)forum. Unlike the shadowban, the unwary user knows when he's banned because his account is locked and all his posts are gone as if he was never there.

1) What happens to innocent users and forum threads when micro-dicked mods or admins exercise their power of the banhammer.

That asshole shadowbanned me on his site, so I hammerbaned his ass here.
