An event that once ended before the summer, which was great, since not everybody wants to watch the most intense part of the season all summer, they're ready for it to get over with so they can enjoy their summer, the season free of sports competitions, bad calls by referees, fights between players, and all the bullshit hype from the media and journalists (no wonder people take vacation in the summer). Not everybody is that desperate to see their team win, it was once good enough if they won in June, and the season was long enough without extending to July, which is silliness. Not anymore though, now people are expected to keep watching until summer is almost over.
Now that the NBA playoffs extend into at least July, players are being told not to think about the beach or vacation, and they're expected to take these kind of silly expectations seriously. It was bad enough last year when the NBA Finals took place at the same time as the World series, and hardly anybody knew or paid attention because it wasn't their top priority, of course.

Get the NBA Playoffsmug. If sports are really just games, and the planet revolves around the sun, and not sports, then what is really at stake in the playoffs? If you take enough things in life seriously already, you know that because none of the players are dying in the games, there is nothing to have a sense of urgency or desperation in life. You can't take trophies or rings with you when you pass, so none of it really matters.
Sports and sports playoffs are the last thing in life to have a sense of urgency in life about, or even take seriously, and yet a lot of people still treat sports events like the most important thing in life and the world. Somebody that thinks a team needs more of a sense of urgency to win a stupid fucking ball game because it's the playoffs is not a serious person, just an uber competitive hype minded person. In reality sports playoffs are not a big deal.
