It usually signifies something along the lines of affirmative, or can also be used to denote shock or fright.

Gangster version of the word "Meebo." But, more importantly, it is used as a nickname for young couples who had a long history together (must be a long one) but eventually got through all up's and down's through God's grace and mercy.
