good will

A factor of humanity that is lacking in most people. Good will is the basic component of "good people," that is, those who are nonmalignant, those with clean motives, and those who possess a lack of cruelty and viciousness.

1) Show some good will to this homeless man; buy him some coffee.
2) Where is the good will in men? I find only selfishness, hate, and the profanity of the good.

(1) A terse and deliberately understated manner of expressing that something is less than hoped. (2) a way of understating a substantial problem, mess, or catastrophe.

Sometimes expressed with a suspenseful interlocutor such as "ummm," "errr," or a gesture of consideration like a glance or a finger on the lip.

Q: How was your first day at the marketing firm with your new boss?
A: I just got home from work after a day with my crazy boss, umm, not good.

Ex 2: Did you see that plane hit the tower? Wow, not good.

the goods

a phrase that can be substituted for anything, positive or negative... usually when you feel like irritating someone, "the goods" can be substituted to such an extent that the entire point of the conversation is ambiguous.

Eric: "What did you do with her last night?"
Brian: "You know... i got the goods"
Eric: "You mean she gave you dome?"
Brian: "You know, the goods"
Eric: "What?"
Brian: "The goods!"
