there are 2 meanings
1. a "nu metal" band which has a unique vocal style. even though its soft.. it still sux. what did u think i would say its good. and all in all the instrumentals are really easy. they say nu metal is supposed to be easy but sound good. but this is one band that really doesnt follow up
2. often an insult to call someone who likes nu metal deftones. because of the sheer amount of people and nu metal people who dont like them. even calling a nu metal person who does like them "deftones" they will easily get offended just because it is an insult. however they will openly say they like them but that doesnt change the fact that. its an insult.

Get the deftones mug.A over the top obsessive cult member/fan member of the Deftones, an overly hyped band that plays simplistic music at slow elongated tempos to whispering lyrics with short burst of screaming in between. You can spot one of these fans because they have invented their own language and speak in code through song lyrics. If a female fan you will find 'rx queen' on their myspace or any other similar song title. Such fans also create theyre own tribute pages to deftones in a lame attempt to gain myspace friends to up their friend count total and to socialize with other cult members. Said fans claim if you 'go to a show you'll see why they're the greatest ever'; 'its orgasmic' referring to the live show. But this is just overhype created by the female fan base, which appeals to the deftones brand of music because the screaming reminds them of a former boyfriend.

The band was formed by Chino Moreno (vocalist), Chi Cheng (bassist, died in 2013 at the age of 42, R.I.P), Stephen Carpenter (lead guitarist), Abe Cunningham (drummer) The Replacement for Chi Cheng is Sergio Vega.
