a genre of items that resemble a Thing only in form, but have an entirely different function. while anything can be unusually shaped, a formoid is distinct because it is a Thing that is utilising (without greatly stretching the parameters of) it's existing or traditional form to resemble another Thing.

that handbag designed to look like a really big binder clip is such an excellent formoid.
