In most cases, the abusers are advocating for certain causes, and they believe the said cause has something to do with creating a world of harmony among groups... so anyone who dares disagree with them must want to incite inter-group conflict and thus, hate-filled. People on the political left are particularly prone to this. Fortunately, many leftists have noticed this problem within their own political community and are trying to solve it, so we could probably harbor some optimism about the future of humankind.
