n. Someone or something (commonly a band) held in the highest regard by hipster culture.

Origin: An internet meme from last.fm in late 2008, specifically the shoutbox for Aphex Twin and later Animal Collective.

Often mistakenly thought to be a misspelling of "hipster garbage," hipster garabe is not strictly a derogatory term.

When it was first coined, it meant a fan who was getting away from mundane persuits to engage in fan activities, but in a very short period it flip-flopped in meaning and was thereafter used to mean leaving fan activities behind to pursue real-world endeavors.
