After receiving my 50th rejection letter I had a Senior unemployment moment and knew it was time to apply to where all senior greeters have gone before.

The Unemployment Zone

Any area of your body that is typically not covered by clothing, on which you have tattoos. Applied most commonly to the forearms and hands.

Player 1: Hey bro, how did your job interview go?
Player 2: Boss told me I got the job, but I'll have to cover up my unemployment zone.

Player 1: Dude, I am so pumped! Tomorrow I get sleeved!
Player 2: Does your boss at that law firm know you're about to enter the unemployment zone?

chronic unemployment

Being unemployed for at least six months, not due to medical reasons. Considered a major problem as most employers will not hire someone who has been unemployed for six months.

Eighteen months of chronic unemployment has wrecked my finances.

headline unemployment

(ECONOMICS) Total unemployed, as a percent of the civilian labor force (official unemployment rate). Does not include discouraged workers. Also referred to as "U-3" by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

The BLS regularly publishes six estimates of unemployment. The others are U-1, U-3, U-4, U-5, and U-6. Eurostat publishes one monthly estimate of unemployment for the European Union, which is approximately midway between U-3 and U-4.

The unemployment statistics for the USA are collected through a monthly Current Population Survey (CPS) (also known as the household survey) and an establishment survey.

Given the way the government's headline unemployment rate is calculated, it can never reach 14%. This is because the civilian labor force includes only people who are working or have looked for a job in the previous four weeks. When the economy gets really bad (like now), unemployed workers get discouraged and give up looking for jobs. This causes the civilian labor force to decline as fast or faster than total employment.

PA Unemployment

The unemployment office in the state of Pennsylvania. The system was much better in the past until a Facebook Update in the summer of 2021 completely overhauled the system.

The customer service system became is now one of the worst in the US. If you contact them for help, they clearly refuse to fix your issue. They log your issue with a ticket number and force you to wait for three weeks due to 70,000 people being ahead of you. And when they contact you, you'll end up missing the call and getting an email instead, forcing you to open a new ticket and wait three more weeks because your issue was not resolved.

If you ever experienced this, just contact a lawyer and sue the crap out of the Commonwealth of PA.

And this is from a Commonwealth of PA employee.

Kyle: Dude, the PA unemployment system now is awful. All they did was set up a ticketing system forcing you to wait weeks for a response to your issue.
Chris: Yeah, I'm still waiting for my ticket to be rung up. It's been a week now.
