Get the Pokemonmug. Although no one knows how to pronounce the name of the franchise- not even the anime- Pokemon is probably the biggest thing ever to have come out of Japan.
Pokemon over-saturated the media in the late 90's-early 2000's, and soon people got sick of it, but it's still very successful. However, it has unfortunately crossed over into nerd territory.
The games themselves are all surprisingly fun. It's an intelligent, strategic game, like chess.
The plush toys and lunchboxes, however, I could do without.

Kids were encouraged to like Pokemon in 1999, but now it's more like Magic- it's okay to play, but you shouldn't tell your friends.

Get the pokemonmug. A game that almost all 90s kids played, and a TV show that almost all 90s kids watched. The best Pokemon will ALWAYS be the first 150, now it's getting lame with the 450+ Pokemon, which now look like something out of a bad acid trip. The TV show was great when the theme song was "I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was...", after that, it went down the drain. I loved to play the games even though I sucked and I would really like Pokemon to exist in real life. To me, having a Vaporeon or a Dragonair as a pet would be pretty flippin awesome.

Get the Pokemonmug. The anime: The culprit of giving Pokemon a poor reputation among the former fans of the game (the older ones, at least.) As the anime continued it got worse and worse.
The cards: I was never really into the Pokemon cards, but based on what little I knew they were quite fun at the time. I'm not sure about today, though.
The game: Many people who are either misinformed or simply un-intelligent bash the game series. However, if one actually looks at it from a purely gaming standpoint, it actually requires a lot of intelligence and thinking on your feet. The games are quite fun and entertaining, (lets face it, nearly anyone could play it for 4 hours straight no problem), and require a substantial amount of strategy and planning.
