The shit abyss by my understanding is a terrifying place of reckoning, a place and time where you will be forced to face yourself and your decisions. It is referenced by the great Mr. Lahey on the trailer park boys when warning Ricky about his shinanaigans.

With all the bullying that was happening to him, he felt like he was lost in the abyss.

1.A term coined by Sunnyvale Trailer Park Supervisor Jim Lahey to describe Ricky, Julian and Bubble's result of their failure to solve a problem.

2.To describe someone in a really bad situation.

1. Mr.Lahey-"The abyss...the shit abyss..."
Randy-"Mr.lahey not another night of the shit abyss, please..."
Mr.Lahey-"Ah fuck it..."

2. James got his girlfriend pregnant with twins, I tell you, that guy is in the shit abyss.

Tales of the Abyss

An RPG from Namco-Tales studio (and 8th in the main series) with great characters (both heroes and villains), an intriguing story (not a predictable RPG), a smooth battle system (multilinear with a stable camera so that your friends can actually see themselves in multiplayer) and general awesomeness. Looks nice, plays well, sounds good, bundled together makes it one of the best RPGs of the year.

The Tales series isn't just about Tales of Symphonia. Games like Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Destiny are way better, and highlight how good the series can be.
