Outsiders who join a fandom/hobby with the sole purpose of policing the behavior of fans in said fandom/hobby and not because they enjoy the hobby themselves. They can commonly be seen trying to shame people for engaging in things that are normal for the fandom and aren't even offensive and harmful, in order to make them "normal" according to their standards. They often engage in brigading to bully people to be more "normal" according to their standards. They like to ragebait fans on purpose and play the victim when the fans get angry or call the fancops out for their behavior. They also like to attack the pre-existing fans by belittling them for their hobby. They also always appeal to triviality.

Get the Awae fandommug. The act of engaging deeply with fan-produced content—such as fanfiction, fanart, video edits, commentary, and memes—of a specific fandom without having consumed the original source material. A fandom stalker selectively immerses themselves in the emotional and aesthetic aspects of a fandom, often becoming familiar with character dynamics, plot arcs, and themes through the lens of other fans. This form of participation is marked by a pick-and-choose approach: embracing what resonates while intentionally avoiding aspects of the canon that don’t appeal.
“I’ve never watched The Last of Us, but I know everything about Ellie and Joel from reading fanfic and watching TikTok edits. I guess I’m fandom stalking.”
