An intellectual for hire for their creative or innovative talent. It was frequently used by Hunter S. Thompson, who used the phrase when describing himself or other journalists.

Any intellectual filling a creative position can be a hired geek.

A computer geek is an obsolete pejorative stereotype for a student interested in computer science. A geek is an individual who pursues personal passions even if they are derided as unattractive fascinations. To be a geek is to be, unflinchingly, oneself.

I am a computer geek because I like to study computer science.

Clothing or accessories that are very geeky/nerdy and yet, at the same time, says "I'm cool because I'm proud of the fact that I'm a nerd, and am not afraid to dress the part".

Hybrid-Geek

The Hybrid-Geek is a person who is interested in technology, especially computing and pursues technical skill and imagination, while maintaining a mainstream social acceptance. Where as your everyday GEEK normally finds themselves outside of most mainstream social circles.

You can invite Chris to the BBQ, he's a hybrid-geek. He'll bring his own beer and hook-up with your sister.

Geek Envy

The overwhelming need or desire to have stronger/better ability to work with and manipulate technology. Typically found in people with little or no technical ability, this condition can cause feelings of inferiority and inadequacy.

John: Allen just doesn't get it. He can barely turn his computer on and he wants to be a programmer.

Chris: Yeah, he has major geek envy.
