In 1958, an MIT student named Oliver Smoot measured a bridge as a part of a fraternity pledge. But he wasn't allowed to use a ruler or tape measure. He had to use himself. Commonly confused with the word smart, the difference is: A smoot person could not tell you the answer to 1+1 but they could tell you (in extreme detail) how to build a hydrogen reactor. On the other hand a smart person knows all their times tables and is just smart in general.
