polaroid

Brand-name famous for instant film and cameras, whose popularity spanned from the 1960s through the 90s, until it was shadowed by digital photography.

After two rounds of chapter 11 bankruptcy, in 2009 Polaroid exited the film market, despite the niche market that still exists. Remaining packs of Polaroid film, including expired packs, fetch insane amounts of money on eBay.

In the meantime, the corpse of the Polaroid Corporation is being raped by Lady Gaga. The company re-entered the instant film market in 2010; although initially announced to be the return of 600 film, the end-result was really the Fujifilm Instax camera and film in drag.

Most older "pack film" cameras can still be used; they accept Fuji's FP-100C color, and/or FP-3000b black and white films.

New film for the "integral film" cameras has been re-invented and released by The Impossible Project, but is still under heavy-development.
Don't bother with Polaroid film that expired before 2004... either the chemicals will be dried-up, or the battery will be a dud.

Dumb Polack

The term "Dumb Polack" was coined by the Germans in World War 2.

The Germans had surrounded the capital city of Warsaw with tanks and armament. They shelled the city to pieces and wanted the polish people to surrender. They refused and many fought to the death with pitch forks, shovels, anything in hand.

The Germans continued to shell the city unmercifully, so much so that the Germans called them "Dumb Polacks" for not surrendering even to overwhelming fire power and force.
A true example is one who would try to prevail against overwhelming odds. However, it is usually used as a derogatory term, without the user knowing its true meaning. Most people of character, would be proud to be called a dumb polack, if they knew its true meaning.

shake it like a Polaroid picture

Comes from the song Hey Ya! by a group called Outkast intoning women to shake it out on the dance floor. Refers back to when people used to wave around or fan their instant photos in order to dry them. The popularity of this song/phrase caused the Polaroid company to put out a press release warning people NOT to shake today's Polaroids because it would ruin them.
She knew how to attract men: she would get out on the dance floor and shake it like a Polaroid picture!
