an acronym, standing for "wince out loud". This term is an online or textual exclamation similar to it's almost opposite acronym "LOL" but WOL is used in situations where the viewer is either shocked, embarrassed or appalled by what they see or read online. This acronym is most often used when viewing unlocked private pictures on dating sites, particularly when the unlocked image reveals a very ugly face, or a particularly explicit and disgusting sexual act or part of the anatomy.

Weep out loud (includes all forms of the verb "to weep"). This can express a state of mind or can be used as an apology.
This was first used on June 15, 2009, by an Arizona newspaper columnist who emailed a link to an Arizona blogger, saying, "Read this. First you'll LOL. Then you'll WOL (weep out loud)."

WOL (Wondering Out Loud) - A spontaneous thought pop-up that you can’t keep to yourself—ideal for those moments when your mind’s analyzing KPIs but suddenly veers into “what if” territory. Often leads to big ideas or random musings about why water coolers never seem to be refilled. In private equity, a good WOL can spark game-changing strategies…or just leave everyone scratching their heads.
Sach: “Just WOL, what if we consolidate all coffee breaks for a 10% productivity gain?”
Hern: “Love the thinking, but some ideas are best kept on mute!”
