pretexting

Calling a telephone company or a financial institution and obtaining sensitive, personal information about a customer by deceiving the company into believing that you are that customer.

It was revealed that Hewelett Packard was spying on its board of directors and hired lawyers to obtain information on personal phone calls. The lawyers used pretexting to trick phone companies into releasing that information.

Getting drunk by yourself before going to a social function. The social function in question is usually dry or full of people not as drunk as the pretard (not yet, anyway). Pretardation is marked by shame and embarassment often confused with being the life of the party.

Jeff figured there wouldn't be much drinking at his neice's birthday party, so he got pretarded at home.

pretaliate

Seizing the opportunity to take preemptive retaliation for something you know will happen.

Messing around with friends often escalates with some crescendo event that signals the end to the fun. To pretaliate is to abruptly advance the inevitable ensuring that you are never the target. Pretaliatory action must ensure that nobody wants to continue playing.

As Ken and Jim where trading stink bombs while watching the game, Larry quietly decided he would pretaliate by taking a dump in the nacho dip.

pretext

1. When you send a text message and know what the reciever will reply. Therefore, you already write out (pretext) - and possibly save in drafts- what you will respond in return.

2. Could also be used in instant messaging by pre-typing a response.

X: "What are you doing tonight?" (asking even though they know)
X uses pretext and writes and saves to drafts- "Oh i see- me too."
Y: "Going to a movie."
X: sends the saved draft of "Oh i see- me too."
