pop punk

Okay. There are two definitions for pop punk.

a. The TRUE pop punk, which is punk music with pop hooks. Oftentimes this music will talk about girls, love, etc. because thos things are IMPORTANT to the lyricist at the time. Anyone who says that talking about love isn't punk because "no real punk rockers do" means that you are CONFORMING to what youv'e been told is punk. Now, now, we wouldn't want that, would we, Mr. Self-Declared-Anti-Conformist?

Here, you might be saying,"What a hypocrite. You are telling me right now what the definition of pop punk is, so why can't i be told the definition of punk?"
You see, the reason I am posting the definition of pop punk is because this is a DICTIONARY, and that's what they are for. I'm not trying to impose my beliefs on you, I'm trying to make this site a reliable reference for anyone who would like to know what pop punk is widely accepted as meaning.

Okay. Rant is over.

b. According to MTV and Top 40 radio, pop punk is bad pop music played by people that dress like mall punks. This isn't true, but it's widely accepted, so this is here for reference.
a.Screeching Weasel, The Ramones, Bouncing Souls are pop punk.

b. Good Charlotte, Simple Plan

If you were to ask an average teenage girl who listens to pop punk WHY she likes certain pop punk bands, the answer you'll most likely get is that she thinks the guys in the band are "hot."

Seriously. When was the last time you heard a girl say she liked Fall Out Boy without also saying that "Pete Wentz is liek omfg SOO HAWT!!1!"? It's the same with bands like Green Day, My Chemical Romance, or any others that are popular right now.

If the bands' fans would learn to appreciate them for their musical talent rather than their members' looks, then maybe there wouldn't be so many idiots making the band look like a bunch of terrible no-talent sellouts (or, in fact, actually MAKING them terrible no-talent sellouts).
Guy: So I see you like Fall Out Boy. May I ask why?

Pop Punk fangirl: OMFG becuz Pete Wentz is liek SOOOO HAWT!1! Hes in that band and liek hes totally SEXII!1!

Guy: ... Ok... and what about their music??

Pop Punk fangirl: Ohh yes!! Patrick Stump's voice is SOOOO WONDERFUL!!! Ahhh.. *swoons*

Guy: -_- wait here while I go get a heavy object...

pop-punk

it's a term used to name the music style of bands like Green Day, Blink 182, Good Charlotte, or Simple Plan.
This bands were influenced by the skatepunk bands like Bad Religion, Nofx, Pennywise, etc. They made the songs catchier so it would become more listenable to the mainstream audience therefore more popular. That's where the name pop-punk comes from.
Being mainstream music has caused the rejection of this music by other punkrockers who are against the mainstream and corporate music.
Nowadays pop-punk is influating other bands to create new styles of music like rock-pop or new hardcore-pop better known to the audience as emo music
Green Day, Blink 182, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan are the best examples of pop-punk

pop punk

a sub genre of punk which was spearheaded by bands like blink-182, The Offspring, and Green Day. these are real pop punk bands. they are often called posers, but that is just because they are constantly being copied by bands like Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte, and Bowling for Soup
maybe blink 182's untitled album and American Idiot weren't punk, but back in the day these bands were real pop-punk
Simple Plan: (whiney voice) I'm just a kid, and life is a nightmare!!!

blink-182 fan: screw you, listen to some real music

pop punk

A type of music which is similar to classic punk rock music, except with appealing vocals/instrumentals. Because the genre is catchy, lots of people listen to it. This irritates others, because punk isn't supposed to be popular.
People who listen to pop-punk normally know that they themselves and the bands they listen to are not punk, they just listen to the music because they like it (or they listened to real punk and didn't like it too much). Most actually respect punk rock bands, just choose not to listen to them. The same probably goes for the band.
Pop punk bands (that are good if you give them a chance):
The Offspring, Sum 41 (not the early Sum 41), Green Day, Blink-182 (early).
Stuff that is sadly in the same category: Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, New Found Glory.

pop punk

pop-punk is unarguably one of the most confusing and varied genres. ever. everyone knows that punk rock originates from the 80s and kids had mohawks and blah blah blah. then in the 90s, that was still around. but later on bands started making popular punk music. thats basically was it means. its just punk music that is popular. bands like that were blink-182, green day, sum 41, etc. so as time progressed, scene and emo kids came out and then something magical happened. bands like we the kings, mayday parade, all time low started making this "new" pop punk that all those scene kids digged. but without knowing it bands like man overboard, the wonder years etc were being formed. those bands have really made their own pop punk genre. that form of pop punk is really the biggest at the moment and it is its whole phenomenon, like the pizza eating and making tumblr edits and stuff. anyway, behind all of that is the old/new weird pop punk that no one can really explain why its pop punk but it just is, bands like brand new and american football. pop punk can also be hardcore as well like pierce the veil can be put in the 'hardcore still emo in 2013' sorta group but is also in the new pop punk one too. anyway, old pop punk, new pop punk, weird indescribable pop punk, it doesn't matter. its good shit. AND WHATEVER ANYONE SAYS, 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER IS NOT POP PUNK.
first pop punk: blink-182, the ataris, bowling for soup, weezer, green day, sum 41, new found glory, the all american rejects, yellowcard, jimmy eat world, good charlotte

2005-2009 ((scene kids shit)): the academy is..., all time low, boys like girls, we the kings, we are the in crowd, the red jumpsuit apparatus, paramore, panic! at the disco, my chemical romance, mayday parade, mariana's trench, the maine, hit the lights, hey monday, every avenue, fall out boy, cute is what we aim for

hardcore pop punk: sleeping with sirens, SECRETS, pierce the veil, a day to remember, get scared, ghost town

indescribable: american football, brand new, say anything, taking back sunday

modern 'popular': the front bottoms, tigers jaw, joyce manor, man overboard, the story so far, neck deep, state champs, major league, modern baseball, real friends, transit, touche amore, basement, handguns, citizen, the wonder years, seahaven, front porch step, tonight alive, all time low

im probably forgetting tons of bands but yea you get the picture
