close to the kernel

Adjective. The term is used to indicate that someone or something has a nerd or geek-like quality. It is also used by geeks to describe other, more hard-core geeks. It's connotation may be positive or negative depending on tone.

The term comes from the software industry, where kernel programming is among the most technically involved. From an informal standpoint, the more connected people are with kernel software, the higher the chances are of them being geek-like.

John is always talking about role-playing games on his computer - he's close to the kernel.

A person who can adapt to different environmental influences in personality traits so he could not be disliked by anyone. Trusted by everybody and can easily back stab anyone if wrongfully messed around with.

"There's Kersey, maybe he could hang out with us today."
"I don't think you'll want to hang out with him after you just screwed around with his little sister."

Kernel

A variation of the military title "colonel", basically meaning an individual, ex-military or civilian with too much ego with little or no experience to match, elevated to a position that screws everything (and everybody) up. Notoriously bad for business and customers. The term is especially used in the aviation industry.

The flight with hundreds of passengers was cancelled because the Kernel couldn't comprehend the piece of plastic trim on the window of row 22 didn't affect safety of flight issues and could, indeed continue.

Kernel Skum

Is a term used after eating a big bag of Orville Redenbacher popcorn, when all the kernels that did not pop mix in with the leftover crumbs of popcorn that your body needs to eat because your still hungry, but instead pick up the kernel and bite and get pissed off so you throw it away.

"Bill for fuck sakes don't eat all the popcorn! Save me some I don't want none of that kernel skum."
