Noun (gaming): a particular class or role defined by their ability to absorb damage and/or draw aggression from either players or NPCs and away from more vulnerable classes to allow them to focus on dealing damage or providing support.

Player 2: Buffing now. These tanky types are soooo needy, but at least they protect us.
