A major component of being a Carolyn Bryant is exaggeration or feigning of danger and need of protective action, followed by directives which are more exploitative or aggressive than defensive.
The term comes from the 1955 murder of 14-year-old African American boy, Emmett Till, which occured at the behest of White, married Carolyn Bryant, who accused Till of flirting with her. Carolyn later admitted to distorting parts of her story regarding Till.
CB's are histrionically addicted to being lavished with sympathy and protective indignance. A CB's goal is to watch others needlessly over-defend her.
