Adding one or two friends on Facebook from a certain group of friends so that you can look at all of their friends for more people you may know.

Prima: Dude, you got 45 new friends in one day! How did you do it?
Secunda: I went friend-hopping last night.

For example: Three couples go to the movies for a triple date an after the movie is over no one talks to each other unless there group is in public together again.

a fake friend is someone who pretends to be your friend, when really they don’t care about you at all

“hey did you see that natalie, kendall, and chloe are all friends again?”
“yeah, they’re all fake friends though. i heard natalie and kendall talking bad about chloe.”

Business Friend

you notice you're a business friend with someone (particularly in college and in a career), that this person, while friendly and nice, uses you for nothing more than answers to an exam, quiz, or to slack work off to you in times of need. They're nice people though, but they just have a material use for you.

Mallory (online): hey can I get those answers for that quiz in our HDF class?

Andrew (online): sure!

trolley friend

a person who is not a stranger, but not quite what you would call a friend either. someone you see every day on public transit and chat with, but whose name you don't necessarily know. a passing acquaintance.

Friends with benefits

Characterized by an intimate relationship with a friend in a specific way that has no intention or future in dating. I.e holding hands, sex, drunk kissing. These people may have an emotional connection as friends but have none in intimacy with each other. Can get confused with friends that on occasion date, but the difference is mutual intentions. Friends with Benefits is a relationship status with preset boundaries. if or once those boundaries are crossed, the friendship is what is sacrificed.

They are just friends with benefits.
