Get the Depressionmug. There are different types of depression.
It is a feeling of hopelessness with no vigour for life. Usually accompanied with extreme anxiety, over-analysis of past situations. There is always a cause.

A child living in an abusive family with no way out and/or being bullied may feel extremely anxious and alone and attention seek to obtain the love they are not getting at home, either by cutting or fighting or being a drama queen or getting obsessive over things or looking for an older partner to take of her.
A rape victim or person from a sexually abusive relationship may have a more hidden type of depression where they plan to kill themselves but pretend to be happy and normal on the outside around those closest to them following the rape. A survivor of rape, several years on might be more open about his or her feelings in regard to this and show more obvious signs of their depression.
Someone who has experienced an abortion as the result of sexual abuse might have a long term alienation and confusion over their life and a more subtle form of ongoing depression they don't really talk about.
A lot of people with depression are considered selfish and self-centred, which is an ignorant way of looking at that person. If someone has horrendous problems, of course they're going to be depressed over them.

Get the depressionmug. A feeling that teenage girls say they have to get attention, and think they are all "deep" because of it. It is really a chemical unbalance of seretonin in the brain.
Teenaged girl: I think I'm depressed. I have so many problems.
Me:No you aren't, I can tell.
Teenaged girl: No, I am. You just don't understand.
Me: No, you don't understand. You don't know the science of depression. You need to be analyzed by a psychological proffesional to really determine it.
Teenaged girl: Whatever, I'm just going to talk about cutting myself and my friends who cut themselves to sound cool.
Me: Okay, have a fun, fake life.
Me:No you aren't, I can tell.

Get the Depressionmug. Depression feels like emptiness, the constant feeling of no feeling at all and a crave to feel. It feels like you're 10 feet underground and no one can hear your screams for help. Depression feels like a whip that slaps you at random. Sometimes you're hanging out with people, at school, at work, etc. and then the whip comes and slaps you again. You feel like you can't talk to people, you feel like if you open up to them they'll think you're weird or just say, "Get a physiatrist." which is easier said than done. You have to keep in mind that it gets so much worse before it gets better. You might lose friends along the way but true friends will alway be one text or call away. Don't worry about your depression because it will go away. You just need time and patience and some things that can make you smile or laugh. If you're pretty much fully recovered and you get a wave of depression again it will pass in one to two weeks. <3 (This was all from past experiences of me and a friend recovering. If your depression does not start recovering after 10-24 months I recommend seeing a doctor for a proper diagnosis.)
Girl:"I'm finally starting to feel genuinely happy and more confident with myself!"
Boy:"Do you mean your depression is starting to go away?"
Girl:"Yes! I haven't been this happy in so long!"
Boy:"We should celebrate!"
