Variances within the scene - with some cars barely modified, others heavily
massaged to generate impressive power, many optimized for handling, others still intended entirely for show/stereo competitions - have resulted in a great deal of criticism and confusion.

A compounding factor, historically, has been the reluctance of Japanese makers to export their most impressive hardware to North American markets. This trend is showing signs of reversing.

Those ricers. Don't they realize that internal combustion engineering progress topped out with the pushrod?

Ricerland

Not everyone on a military base is into Ricers......I happen to be military and my hot rods have included a '71 Nova 350/4 speed, an S-10 with a 355 auto, now I have a '71 Chevelle with a big block 402 and a '69 Nova with a 355.

I've got a guy in my shop with a 2000 T/A and an 88 Mustang GT 5.0, my boss has a '96 Camaro Z28 with an LT1/6 speed, several people in my shop at one time or another owned 5.0 litre Mustangs, another guy had a '72 Mustang with a 351 in it....

Plus there's other guys on base that own or have owned: '69 Dart w/383, '70 Coronet 440, 72 Chevelle, 68 Camaro, '67 Chevelle 355, '68 Chevelle, '69 Chevelle, '69 Mustang, '67 Mustang, '73 Road Runner, 74 Charger, '71 Skylark.....

Now don't get me wrong yes there's ricers too....but not all military drive rice buggys, just the ones that watched The Fast And The Furious one too many times....while the rest of us stick with the true rods...

The Home Depot parking lot in Fayetteville NC on weekend nights is ricerland.

Japanese imports that gay inbreed hillbillies try to make fun of when they roll up to them at a red light in their 40-30 year old shit 3 ton muscle car(but it's fast because it has a 350lb V8 that only makes 200 hp) they stop laughing when they hear the 2 step launch control and see the tail lights of the"ricer" . Often having better proformunce than almost a muscle cars in any area. They are often driven by younger people who keep up with technology and advancements, unlike the american way of just adding more cylinders or displacement.

often people who live in trailers compare the worst import to an american made car which they will never be able to afford either way

yesterday i was in my STi and this hillbilly pulled up next to me with with his brother and sister having sex in the back seat. he asked me if i wanted to get my ass kicked in a race. so we raced and when i launched and he was still wondering how this ricer beat the shit out of him

Any person who spends all of their money trying to make the gay car their mommy and daddy bought them look faster by adding large spoilers, stickers, wheels, lame exhausts and altezza taillights.

I love owning those ricers almost as much as I love owning Mustang GT's with my 4 door fwd family sedan (see nismo)

a wannabe, an annoyance on the highway, that annoying thing that passed you that sounded like a lawnmower, the thing at the other side of the block that you keep laughing at, the car u saw in the good will parking lot next to the state store, very confused individual.
