Colloquial: Person who rings (“dings”) the bells, ie: in a bell tower or at a church.

Modern: mechanical device used to ring large bells, similar to a club or mallet.
My kids asked me what a “dingus” is, and I made up on the spot that it’s a person who dings bells. So now I am adding it to urban dictionary so I can look it up online and prove the definition to be real.
