spring awakening

a kickass musical about coming of age in turn-of-the-cetury germany that opened on broadway at the eugine o'neill theatre in winter of '06. the show was adapted from the book of the same name by frank wedekind. it has a large base of awesome and dedicated fanatics, largely because of the show's risky themes and explicit songs. it features supurb acting and vocal stylings of young actors, all of which are under the age of 24 (in the original cast).

dude #2: is that the one with all of the sex?

concerned friend: so exactly HOW many times have you seen spring awakening?

Greatest Soul singer ever, a person who is capable of delivering a sense of longing into her music despite the complexity level of her materials. Also notable for launching the "Beehive Hair and Panda Eyes" look that was later adopted and alternated by Amy Winehouse. Dusty is also a good friend of Lulu, Pet Shop Boys and Elton John.

senior spring

An extended period of time experienced by a person wherein they can conduct themselves in a carefree manner with little to no repercussions.

Senior spring is similar to the attitude toward work exemplified by a forth year student in high school or college during their spring semester.

This term was made popular by NBC’s The Office in its eighth season, for it was spoken by Pam Halpert, a leading character.

Pam: At this point, when you’re this pregnant, it’s kind of like senior spring. The other day I spit my gum out on the carpet.

Filipino Box Spring Hog

A full hog cooked in this backyard fashion:

Build a big fire, throw a box spring on it until it's burnt off everything but the steel springs, put a hog over the springs above the coals, sauce it with a broom, flip it over ever now and then.

Dig a big pit in a dirt alley road
Fill it with madrone and bay
Stinks like hell
And the neighbors complain

Strawberry Spring

A false spring or unusually warm spell of weather in winter, similar to an Indian summer. The title of a short story about a campus serial killer by Stephen King who may have invented the phrase.

Before reading "Strawberry Spring" I used to enjoy unseasonably warm winter weather. Now I imagine a psycho killer lurking in the warm night air.
