1.A person,chiefly white and male,who lives in a rural area where the terrain is flat as opposed to mountainous or hilly, frequently accompanied by a female mate, a floppy baby and a screaming toddler clad only in a diaper. Female is usually notable for the lack of supportive undergarments.
2.A hillbilly without the hills.

flatlander

Used by native Vermonters to describe people from anywhere else in the country, regardless of whether or not your state has a higher elevation than Vermont. If you aren't native to Vermont, you're a flatlander, period. The term came about because of people from other states visiting the state on account of the ski resorts and the mountains.

"Those damn rich flatlanders come up here from freakin' California and buy up all our farmland and develop damn Walmarts all over the place."

"You're from Michigan? You're a damn flatlander."

"I'm a ridgerunner, not a flatlander."

a term mostly used in Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire that describes people from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. a derogetory comment, meaning either tourists or people who move from MA, CT, or RI to any of the farther north states and try to change everything.

Flatlander

A term given by Vermonters to rich, out of staters (such as people from Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts) as they come up to Vermont in their big, gas guzziling SUVs to ski at the many ski resorts in Vermont. As much as the Vermonters hate flatlanders, flatlanders support their economy by visiting their country stores, gas stations, and hotels.
You know your a flatlander if:
-You drive an escalade, suburban, tahoe, yukon denali ect.

-You're annoyed at the fact that your iPhone or other expensive smartphone doesn't get 3G in Vermont.
-You own a season pass to one of the big ski resorts.
-You own a condo or house in Vermont
-You think that Vermont is a poor state when you drive along the back roads.

Vermonter- "I got passed by this flatlander driving his big Escalade on the back road to Stratton.
