Get the bird dogmug. To hound or pursue something or someone with a usually malicious intent.
Derived from the use of a bird dog to hunt game.
Apparently mistaken by millennials as a slang hybrid of 'bird' being female, and 'dogging' being the act of cuckolding or sharing of one's wife willingly or unwillingly, whilst obviously overlooking the actual normal every day meaning of the term to the point it irritated me to make a bloody account on here to set things straight. So upvote this definition so these low life tweens can at least use the term correctly.

Get the bird doggingmug. (verb) To engage in the relentless pursuit of an objective or goal, often involving the accomplishment of tasks through other, less expedient people. This includes obsessive follow-up, nagging, and harrassment of individuals holding up the accomplishment of the goal. Comes from a reference to pointer dog breeds that serve as loyal hunting dogs, leading the way to the fallen fowl.

Get the bird-dogmug. In football, the expression used to describe when a quarterback stares down receivers before throwing to them. The term is used because a hunting dog will become fixated on the target bird and never take his eyes off of him. This is extremely frowned upon since it tips off the defenders and could result in horrible hits on your receivers.
"Most rookie NFL quarterbacks have to work on not bird-dogging their receivers or they will get their pass-catchers killed."

Get the Bird doggingmug. The activist tactic of attending public appearances by politicians in order to win new policies. Strategies have included asking questions, shaking hands, chanting, etc. HIV/AIDS activists coined this usage to describe pre-election efforts targeting politicians. Note: The usage that involves men flirting with women is an actual word in Webster's.
Bird dogging Obama and McCain on the campaign trail was difficult but contributed to some important results.
