A particular friend or acquaintance whose reaction is used to measure the success of a pun. Usually selected based on their lack of approval of puns in general.

The joke went down well, but my usual punometer wasn't there, so I don't know how good it really was.

PioMeter pee-ah’-mi-tur

Unit of measurement often used in Columbus, OH after its namesake sailor who, on the first ever Bahama Cruise, reckoned he was in India. 1.0 PioMeter = 8.0 feet.

Whilst rigging the Santa Maria’s mainsail with a 2 PioMeter line, the yoeman only needed 2 feet and so he discarded the 14 foot remnant.
