A collection of smaller "villages" and "towns" located near Cape Canaveral, Florida. Nestled on the edge of the Space Coast, Merritt Island is a sleepy town, yet is filled with good people who live honest lives and work with "what they have." Most of the population is of the "blue collar" class, with the notable exception of a few lucky people.
Notable landmarks include Merritt Square Mall (filled with low-end shopping and a Dollar Tree), Gardendale Elementary School (magnet school dedicated to performing arts, advanced scientific/mathematical education, and "artistic expression"), Merritt Island High School (the only high school there), and Ron Jon's (located in Coacoa Beach).
Although it seems "laid back," the local teenage population is highly pretentious (this if for unknown reasons, as none of them can afford even a designer bag or even luxe nailpolish, at that).
All-in-all, not a bad place to grow up if you have money and an open social agenda (as well as an open mind and something to entertain you -- because you *will* get bored quickly).

Merritt Island is a small town famous for nothing. It's filled with blue-collar workers and rednecks.

Get the Avid Merrion mug.CT Route 15 - is a busy scenic route named after U.S. Congressman Schuyler Merritt, who was instrumental in enacting legislation allowing the parkway to be built. A.K.A. The Merritt, The MP, The Parkway. It is in Fairfield County, Connecticut and is one of the oldest parkways in the United States. It starts in Greenwich, CT at the CT/NY state line and technically ends on Igor I. Sikorsky Memorial Bridge (Sikorsky Bridge) at the Startford/Milford line but people in New Haven county still call it the Merritt even though it's called the Wilbur Cross Parkway in New Haven County. The MP has continues its exits numbers from New York. The MP also has no lights and it is a narrow two lanes that becomes more narrow and curvier further south in the county. The parkway does not allow commercial vehicles unless they are CT DOT construction trucks doing construction or gasoline truck refueling the Mobil rest stops. The MP It runs parallel to I-95, you can connect to it by US Rt 7 in Norwalk or by CT Route 8 and 25 in Trumbull. The highway has custom made bridges for each overpass (besides RT 8/25). The old Trumbull railroad line Bridge is still over the highway (between exits 49 & 51N going north/ 49N-48 going south). The parkway also has many tree related deaths because of crashes into trees or tree branches falling cars.
Also many animals like raccoons, deer, skunks, opossums die of being hit. The MP is suppose to be a pretty view but the parkway has a lot of weeds and ivy and money issues with the state prevents grass cutting.
Lets take the Merritt Parkway 95 has traffic.
To me Route 8 in Trumbull/ Shelton looks better it is greener the trees are further away from the road same with Rt 15 in New Haven County. Merritt has many weeds and tree deaths these roadways are just as nice but has less

Get the Meritocracy mug.A depressing and sleazy island with nothing to do or see.
The population mostly consists of morbidly obese conservative retirees and rich kids that have nothing better to do with their free time other than smoke weed and talk shit.
If you don't fit into those two categories of people, then consider yourself irrelevant to the circlejerk. If you're slightly left leaning you'll be viewed as a commie by the two groups of people, if you're LGBTQIA, you'll be viewed as a mentally unstable "fag". Here, diversity is an evil boogie man that will corrupt the youth and ruin their "perfect" white island.
Some other very interesting facts to note are:
1.) The local public school is a failure to the local youth and pay excessive amount of time to athletic electives and neglect to pay attention to non-athletic activities.
2.) Over 80 percent of the population is white & conservative
3.) The wildlife that used to reside in the river has died due to large amounts of pollution by the residents
4.) There's nothing here for the majority of the youth, so most if not all go to Orlando or stay inside all day.
5.) There's is practically zero support for LGBT youth, at most there's a gay AA meeting but other than that there's nothing here.
The only slightly redeeming factor in this horrifying shithole is that the island is extremely close to the cape, which is admittingly pretty cool.
